Caller ID For Android Adds Location Detection To Your Incoming Calls

Caller ID from WhitePages is an add-on for the default Android caller ID that enables location detection. The service tells you two bits of info whenever someone (whether they're on your contact list or not) calls: the approximate city the number belongs to and whether or not it's a landline. The app seems to work pretty well for the first (it got my phone's area correct), but wasn't smart enough to know that it wasn't a landline I was calling from. Still, a pretty useful app for those weird numbers you get sometimes. Available now on the Android Marketplace.

Goodbye, Productivity: MTV Music Site Posts Every Music Video Ever

I hope you've got some time to kill, because the new MTV Music website is pretty much the coolest thing ever for music fans. At long last, the MTV name is being associated with music videos again, because the "music" channel has gone and put its entire archive of music videos online, all embeddable and in high quality. It's like Hulu for music videos, only with less ads (for now). And it's awesome.

The site's still very young, but just poking around shows the amazing amount of content on there. There aren't just music videos on here, but also songs played on shows like VH1 Storytellers and MTV Unplugged. Just check out above, where I've embedded Nirvana playing The Man Who Sold the World from their unplugged set. As of this writing, it's been played 8 times.

Before this just degenerates into me embedding my favorite music videos, I'll just leave you with this video for Wanderlust by Bjork and then let you go explore for yourself. Just from my surface exploration, it includes pretty much everything, from old acts to new, major label acts to indies. Go, go now! [MTV Music]

Death and Taxes 2009 is a detailed graphical account showing where your tax dollars will go next year in the most detailed and fascinating way: Everything is set to scale according to the amount of money spent on it, showing the amazing weight that military-related spending has in the total Federal budget. It's just mindblowing to see it all with one look. It's easy to get amazed with military technology and, like with Dubai's architecture and its slaves, I keep forgetting how much money really gots into developing hypersonic missiles, airborne lasers, invisible bombers, next generation fighters, body piercing tanks, torpedoes capable of splitting a huge ship in two, ever-vigilant drones, scary helmets, and other deadly gadgets. When you zoom in the interactive map, the numbers are just staggering.

For sure, the military research and manufacturing that Darpa or companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin do not only push the scientific and industrial envelope—with long term benefits for everyone—and some may argue that it provides with work and fuels the economy—although this is kind of a fallacy and a vicious circle—but seriously, is this the only way to achieve it? What about the rest of the stuff?
