1. Albert Pujos worth $300 million?
Ebizz: No human being is worth that much. He better be a home run hitter, back catcher, pitcher, and sell peanuts for all that damn money. He does not even have 10 good years left, but even if he does those efforts wont amount to 30 million a year.
DProfessor: From a business standpoint, I see the Cardinals calling the bluff. But the Cardinal arrogance of we will be alright without him is typical St. Louis Good Ole Boys. Is he worth the money, thats up for debate. But if people like Jason Werth can get 7yr $126 mill, Pujols should get 30 mill a year. Hands down. I understand getting more people for the money but you cant replace star power.
Beans: Hell No he's not worth it. That being said there is big hole in the Cubs' lineup that I'm sure Albert would have no problem filling. That would be nuts! Hey, A-Rod got his why can't Albert get his too?
2.Charlie Sheen and a new Major League 4
Ebizz: Im with it. This is the only thing baseball I would watch other than my boy Kenny Powers.... Who cares about him abusing drugs and women. He is not the first and will not be the last but who gives a damn anyways. I enjoyed the first three and would not mind one more sequel.
Beans: Yeah right... He wasn't even in ML 3 that I remember. Who would he play, the obnoxious fan that gets kicked out of the park after sniffing blow with prostitutes in the stands?
DProfessor: Charlie Sheen needs to go ahead and cash in with his own porn spoof. Just call it The Major League and be done with it. He probably already has the footage. Just needs to edit, cut, and add a soundtrack.
3. Cam Newton, and all the other quarterbacks
Ebizz: Cmon now. This guy did everything I expect Pujos to do if he gets this lottery contract. How was he not always considered the best qb? Is this a case of skin color??? There were a few other standout qb's, but none compared to Newton.
Beans: Same old story here. Cam is the "same" can't miss prospect that (ahem) Vince Young was. That is where the similarities end. He is a physical specimen unlike most we've seen leaving the college ranks at the qb position. He has a cannon for an arm, just wait until he gets "coached up."
DProfessor: Pay Cam his money. Difference between Cam and Vince, Cam actually has heart. Vince wins games though.
4. Jerry Sloan resigns
Ebizz: They say great athletes and coaches know when the best time is for them to call it quits....It just so happens that he did it at the same time controversy in Utah had risen. He should be a Hall of Famer someday for what he has done.
DProfessor: As most people are still wondering, I want to know was he tired of Williams. Did he just throw his hands up and say I'm cant take this $hit no more.
Beans: Ditto. His time in this league was special and appreciated, but all good things come to an end.
5. Jerry West Statue
Ebizz: After they make a Kobe statue wont that make 3? They gone run outta statue space in a minute. But hey Im not complaining. Maybe this means they will update the NBA logo to somebody a little more present like...... number 23?
DProfessor: Jerry West is the only man to ever lose the game and win MVP. That should tell you how cold he was. That being said, I wouldnt mind MJ on the logo. The Jordan Brand should take over jerseys the way Reebok did with NFL.
Beans: West is already the logo, why shouldn't he have a statue to match in LA? As for the logo... as much as I would love for there to be the likeness of MJ23 in the NBA logo, that logo is timeless. Leave it as is.
6. Melo makes the Knicks a contender?
Ebizz: I think the biggest learning curve will come when its time to play some defense. This uncoached part of the game may bite them in the ass if the coach doesn't add this to his game plan. They now have a great nucleus to build on for the future at least. I can see Nash or Chris Paul in a Knick jersey. I would like to see a quality center alongside Amare as well.
DProfessor: They will average 100 pts a game and give up 110. Starting line up of Amare, Melo, Turiaf, Landry Fields, and Billups doesnt exactly pump fear into the Boston, Miami, Chicagos of the Eastern Conf.
Beans: Yeah a great nucleus based on the Defenseless D'antoni system. This is the eastern conference - Where defense is what separates contenders from pretenders. This move helps the Knicks, but does not make them contenders-Period. This move seems Isiah-like on the surface, but the Knicks finally got something valuable while giving up draft picks and talent. New York has two franchise players, now they just need a team.
7. Deron Williams to Nets?
Ebizz: If Utah didnt work i wonder how long this marriage will last, cuz the Nets not going no where.
DProfessor: Is it me or is all of the young talent moving to the East and the "veteran" teams are deeper in the West, minus Dookie and the Thunder? The Nets really didn't give up much but without Sloan, I don't think Devin Harris can reach his full potential. Trade is like 3 weeks too late.
Beans: I like Deron Williams. In my opinion the second best pg in the league (After D-Rose, yeah I'm a homer). Deron is tired of Utah and is looking for a change of scenery. If somehow NY was able to bring D-Will in, that would add a major piece to the puzzle there. They still need good role players and a change in defensive philosophy. I guess he will have to settle for Brooklyn.
8. Favorite basketball movie of all time
Ebizz: I would have to say it is a tie for me between Blue Chips with Nick Nolte and a classic combination of Shaq and Penny. A perfect storyline as well. The other would be Above the Rim which came from a more street angle and featured more than enough significant stars. I love both of em. Other notables were White Men Cant Jump and He Got Game.
DProfessor: Probably a tie with Blue Chips, Space Jam, and He Got Game. He Got Game took Blue Chips and showed the recruiting process that people are just now complaining about and visualized it. And any movie with Jesus Shuttlesworth as your main character gets my vote. Blue Chips is awesome. Nick Nolte as Bobby Knight type coach was right on time. Favorite part is when the white baller asks for money in one of those nice little gym bags.
Beans: White Men Can't Jump gets my vote. Streetball with talented hoopers. Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson played the hell out of those roles. It actually looked like those guys could play ball. Also, the young Rosie Perez was Woody's lady too. Nuff Said. Honorable Mention - Above the Rim, Hoosiers, and the Earl "The Goat" Manigalt movie with Don Cheadle.
9. Favorite Football movie of all time
Ebizz: The Program and Friday Night Lights
DProfessor: Any Given Sunday. Watch the video. The Real LT was in there too.
Beans: The Program is a classic, probably will never be topped in my book. Honorable Mention - Any Given Sunday, Jerry McGuire, and Waterboy
10. Lingerie Football League
Ebizz: Are you kidding me? I think this is a kind of silly idea, but at the same time, if you give St. Louis a team I would probably be seen in the audience of at least one game. Sometimes a sport gets its real appreciation when you see it live. And I know fellas \can sure agree with me on this one. Hmmm maybe a lingerie basketball team may improve allstar weekend as well?
DProfessor: The games come on MTV 2 and if you flicking through the channels, it sure as hell catches your eye. I think a lot of events could borrow the Lingerie theme, CNN, the weather channel, History network.
Beans: We actually have a LFL team here in Chicago. If the games were televised I might actually watch. But until someone delivers a career/season ending hit on another lady.... I'll pass.
Bonus: I watched a nice documentary on ESPN about the only Black driver to ever win a Nascar event. The story of Wendell Scott is represented by "A Story of Race". It should have been apart of the 30 for 30 movement but nonetheless. I enjoyed it. You can watch all 4 parts by clicking on this users youtube.
